Release Notes

Description
SharePoint provides top navigation specific to a site collection. No out-of-the box solution exists to provide a top navigation that is shared between web application, site collections and sites. Developers need to write custom code to provide for this type of navigation. What’s worse, this navigation needs to be updated on all web application, site collections and sites used in the links. This can be a maintenance nightmare for farms with large numbers of site collections.

RDA Global Navigation provides a solution for this by implementing a data source that can be associated with all site collections in the farm. Once the data source is configured, the navigation can be added to all site collections withn a web application through Application Management. Once installed, the solution provides:
  • A page in Application Management to configure the data source
  • Functionality to add nodes to, remove nodes from and edit nodes in the data source
  • Configuration of nodes of the following types:
    • Internal SharePoint site
    • External site
    • Web Application – enumerates all site collections in the web application
    • Farm – enumerates all web applications in the farm
  • Ability to include subsites, where applicable
  • Ability to include up to five levels of depth when including subsites
  • Auto-creation of a Document Library and a default navigation configuration file
  • A page in Application Management to add or remove the global navigation from a selected web application

Install Instructions
To install, download the zip file, extract, execute deploy.cmd.
After installation configure the global navigation in the "RDA Global Navigation" section of the Central Administation/Application Management page.
After the navigation has been configured you can deploy it to a particular web application utilizing the Navigation Stapling page.

To uninstall, execute undeploy.cmd

Reviews for this release

Enabling navigation stapling on a web app caused access denied for all users (including service account) untill the wsp was removed. This is more a pre-aplha release...

Received an error during the deploy.cmd (could not catch in DOS screen) Something about Parm can not be Null, UserName. Also after deployment, the features was visible in Admin site however when clicking on build menu, received error: Method not found: 'System.IO.Stream Microsoft.SPFile.OpenBinarySTream(Microsoft.SharePoint.SPOpenBinary Options)' I idea sounds really good, I look forward to try
